REVIEWS/ 12/30/24 PHANTOM LIMB BY PIG DESTROYER
From a contest (of champions) I’ve held on instagram, I’m reviewing Pig Destroyer’s, Phantom Limb album. Now, for a bit of story; I did want to find out what genre this album is because it doesn’t have a particular sound to it, most of it sounds like Metallica with the back-up vocalist from later Machine Head as the lead vocalist which isn’t a bad thing, turns out to be grindcore which isn’t particularly my cup of hardcore tea. There’s nothing inherently wrong with grindcore it's alright, it's just very repetitive, and everything gets very samey which to be fair is an issue with metal as a whole, but we can have the genre debate later. Rest assured because as I alluded to I don’t really consider it grindcore because it doesn’t really fall into that issue. Some of the songs on this album are very fun, my personal stand-out is Girl in The Slayer Jacket. That is to say the album has great stand-out hits but also just grindcore. Like don’t get me wrong, I too yearn to live my life in Doom Eternal sometimes, but it leaves me less of a desire to return to the album as a whole but more so re-listen to the hits whenever, which isn’t necessarily bad, it makes it more memorable in a way, but it does make the whole listening experience better as it feels relentless and gives a bit more reverence to the songs that are truly good. I’d give it a very solid 7.5/10.
