REVIEWS/ 05/12/25 ILL TIMES BY GUM

Oh boy, a funky pop-alt-rock band from Australia, where have I heard this before. Ill Times wears its King Gizz influence on its shoulder, which is a genuine good thing, maybe some time I will do a King Gizz review, who knows, who cares, the point being I really enjoy this album. The album has such a perfect introduction, similar to Lightwork by Devin Townsend, Ill Times starts with a nice slow and catchy track to ease the listener in-I love this trope sooo much. In my opinion the album sort’ve goes down in quality starting from fool for you. The title track, minor set back, and fool for you pick up from the slower paced energy of dud, and all successfully do that funky sound justice, fool for you probably being my favorite, gives the most Closure in Moscow vibes. The only detriment I would give to this album is that they deliver good sounding songs, but just makes me want to listen to King Gizz, or Closure in Moscow, or even (the good parts) of giaa. But I don’t think this album was meant to be listened to, the full way through, or at least not with your full attention, every song in this belongs in a “vibes playlist” or listening to this album with half your brain turned off doing something in the background, there’s merit to an album that you can turn your brain off, and listen to in the background, and every once in a while going “oh wow this part sounds cool”, not every album needs to be picked apart and listened thoroughly (FORESHADOWING). This may be too generous but I’ll be giving this album 8.5/10, I very much enjoyed listening to this, and it has been great in a playlist next to other funky titles. Up next is another big review.
